History

The Proscenium Club was formed over a period of many years while a group of emerging artists led by Joshua Bainbridge discussed the need for Ontario and Canada to produce more original professional Canadian Theatre works written and performed by artists from Northern Ontario.

Proscenium started in summer 2016 following a series of development workshops conducted by the Future in Safe Hands Collective (FISH) with the support of the Ontario Arts Council. The Fish Collective was focusing on development of individual theatre skills building resources within the region by developing a new generation of emerging theatre artists. Joshua Bainbridge took this one step further by uniting several of these emerging artists and building a professional theatre troupe.

Fall 2016 marked the first production for the collective with Bainbridge’s “I Live With Him Every Day: The Tragedy of David and Dave” touring through Uxbridge and Stouffville with a full team who conducted their first official Canadian Actors’ Equity Association production.
