Did you know that North Bay is home to one of the most successful independent wrestling promotions in Canada.
Northland Wrestling has been around for years – and was doing a show or two a year. Until the promoter decided to open up a wrestling school in North Bay. During the pandemic, an influx of locals started training and since restrictions lifted- led by a new roster featuring many locals, Northland is now running monthly sold-out shows.
Inspired by my experience with Northland-
This is Wrestling – is about a group of down on their luck working class friends, who after attending a wrestling show decide they should mount a big show in their community to make some money. It’s Pro Wrestling meets the Full Monty.
From training to tanning, promotion and pageantry, and all the interpersonal comedy and drama of the creation of scripted violence. We learn about what happens behind the scenes through the eyes of characters learning the business themselves. And what changes in the community engagement and fandom when the characters in the ring are your neighbor, your mechanic, or your kid’s teacher.
In film and television Josh has appeared in numerous projects. His most recent roles include the titular role in the upcoming feature Nobel and the Kid, a multi-episode role on Hudson and Rex, as well as Star Trek: Discovery, The Boy in the Woods, Beyond Black Beauty, All My Puny Sorrows, and many others. Joshua also works as a northern OSLO ACTRA representative.
